The SENSE Centre for Doctoral Training (funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and hosted at the Universities of Leeds and Edinburgh) is currently recruiting for our 2023 cohort of PhD students (20 fully funded studentships in total).
The deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday 15th January 2023.
Passionate about environmental science and satellite data? Interested in a PhD but aren’t sure where to start? Have questions about the PhD application process? SENSE is offering a variety of application support options:
As part of our ongoing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) work, we want to widen participation for UK-domiciled underrepresented groups, which we have identified as Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, disabled persons and those from a disadvantaged socio-economic background. As such, we are offering prospective candidates from these groups opportunities and resources such as:
- This year SENSE are guaranteeing interview slots for up to 50% of our previous year’s interview allocation, for BAME or disabled applicants. Gender is not one of SENSEs underrepresented categories.
- 1-2-1 sessions with one of our Centre Managers (sense.recruitment@ed.ac.uk) or our EDI Champion to further advise candidates on their applications.
More information for applicants can be found on our Projects, How to Apply and dedicated FAQ webpages. You will also find additional resources such as How can a PhD help me with my career?
Candidates are welcome to email us at sense.recruitment@ed.ac.uk if they have further questions. All candidates will always be selected based on merit and ability within an inclusive and fair recruitment process. Please see our Recruitment Best Practices for further details.
